Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 250 g bread(s), stale
- 100 g oat flakes
- 300 ml milk, warm
- 1 egg(s)
- 1 medium-sized bell pepper(s) (or 1/2 red and 1/2 green)
- 1 large onion(s)
- 1 garlic clove(s)
- some oil for frying
- salt and pepper
- some chives, finely chopped
- herbs (e.g. oregano, thyme etc.), optional
- some butter or oil
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes
Good use of leftovers
Soak the chopped bread in a little warm water. Soak the oats in the warm milk. Squeeze the soft bread dry and mix with the oats. Add the egg. Chop the bell pepper, onion, and garlic clove, fry briefly in a little oil in a pan, and stir into the mixture. Season with salt and pepper, stir in finely chopped chives, and additional herbs, if desired. Now form the dough into flat cakes about 7 cm in size and fry them well on both sides in butter or oil. These cakes go well with a salad. Tips: If the mixture is too soft, simply add some breadcrumbs. If you like, you can also add ham or cheese.
