Ingredients for 5 servings:
- 500 g flour
- 1 cube of yeast, fresh
- 250 ml milk, lukewarm
- 1 pinch of salt
- 80 g butter
- 50 g sugar
- 1 pack of lemon(s) – peel or liquid lemon flavor
- some milk
- Sugar
- Almond(s), slivers
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes
Mix the flour, salt, sugar, and lemon zest. Heat the milk in a saucepan and melt the butter. When the milk is lukewarm, crumble in the yeast cube and let it rise for 5 minutes. Then add the milk to the flour and knead everything thoroughly. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour. Knead the dough again, divide it into three pieces, and braid it. Braid it tightly, as it will be quite large. Place the braid on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and let it rest for another 10 minutes. Brush it with milk to brown it nicely. You can then sprinkle it with granulated sugar, almond flakes, or something similar, work raisins into the dough, or instead of a yeast braid, roll the dough out on a towel, spread it with poppy seeds, and roll it into a poppy seed roll. Bake at 150°C (convection oven) for about 20-25 minutes.
