Onion casserole

Ingredients for 3 servings:

  • 1 kg onion(s)
  • 200 g crème fraîche with herbs
  • 150 g cheese (medium-aged Gouda)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 slices of toast
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • Thyme
  • Paprika powder

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Grate the cheese and cut the bread into small cubes. Slice the onions into thin rings and sauté in hot fat until translucent. Season with salt, pepper, and plenty of thyme. Then mix with the herb crème fraîche (I only use Creme Frischli). Transfer everything to a deep, greased casserole dish. Sprinkle the bread cubes and grated Gouda over the casserole. Sprinkle with thyme and paprika. Place the dish on the middle rack of a cold oven and bake at 225-250°C for about 30 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the bread cubes are crispy.
