Grandma's swede stew

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 40 g lard or margarine
  • 375 g pork neck
  • 2 onions
  • some salt
  • 1,000 g peeled swede(s)
  • 750 g potatoes, peeled
  • 375 ml water

Instructions

Working time approx. 35 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 35 minutes

Heat the fat, add the diced meat, and brown lightly, turning occasionally. Just before the meat is sufficiently browned, add the finely chopped onions and heat briefly. Then season the meat. Then add the diced vegetables and then the finely chopped potatoes. Pour the water over the meat. Without stirring, cover the pot and leave the heat on level 3 until steam escapes. Then reduce the heat to level 1, and about 10 minutes before the end of the cooking time, reduce the heat to level 0, as otherwise the amount of water specified in the recipe would not be sufficient. Also, do not constantly remove the lid from the pot or stir the ingredients, as this will result in insufficient heat. When the dish is cooked, season to taste.
