Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 200 g rice or burghul
  • 100 g lentils, brown
  • 1 liter vegetable broth
  • 4 onions
  • oil
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • possibly caraway
  • 30 g butter

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

simple Arabic dish

Cook rice or burghul and lentils in vegetable broth. Depending on the cooking time, cook the lentils first and add the rice or burghul later. Add water as needed. Slice the onions into rings and fry them in oil until dark brown, then let them dry on kitchen paper. The onions should be crispy after cooling. Season the rice with salt and pepper and, if desired, a little caraway seeds. Stir in the butter and let it melt. Serve with the onion ring topping.
