Sarma dumplings with sauerkraut

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 6 large potatoes
  • salt water
  • 1 kg sauerkraut
  • 2 large onions
  • 70 g rice
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 60 ml milk
  • 1 tbsp butter, soft
  • salt and pepper
  • Paprika powder
  • 4 tbsp vegetable broth
  • 1 kg minced meat, mixed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp breadcrumbs

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

Combine the minced meat with the uncooked rice, eggs, and breadcrumbs, and season. Then form the mixture into dumplings. Bring the sauerkraut, onions, and broth to a boil and add the dumplings. Simmer gently for 45-60 minutes, depending on the size of the dumplings. Meanwhile, peel the potatoes and boil them in salted water until tender. Once the potatoes are tender, remove from the heat, drain, and allow to cool. Mash with milk and butter until smooth and serve with the sauerkraut and dumplings.
