1 Pot Dish: Steyr Tabor Pot

The perfect 1 pot dish: steyr tabor pot recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 kilogram Beef
  • 120 g Bacon
  • 3 Pc. Onion
  • 3 Pc. Clove of garlic
  • 2 Pc. Chili
  • 250 ml Red wine
  • 100 g Pickled peppers
  • 2 tsp Paprika paste
  • 3 Pc. Beans thick canned
  • 250 g Chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Paprika powder
  • Celery salt
  • Pepper

Dishes history

  1. Hungarian soldiers who were in Garsten service as prison guards (KAS = imperial arrest shooter) gave their name to the Steyr district of Tabor (Hungarian for field camp). The stew is a leftover soldier meal in the Hungarian style.

preparation

  1. Leave out the diced bacon, add the onion and gradually toast the garlic. Add paprika paste and then roast the meat.
  2. Deglaze with a dash of red wine. Add the pickled peppers and the paprika powder together with the chopped tomatoes, bring to the boil.
  3. Pour in the red wine and simmer on a low heat.
  4. It takes about 1-2 hours for the meat to cook through, alternatively I recommend using a pressure cooker. Let this “go up” 2-3 times.
  5. Fold in the canned beans for the last 30 minutes.
  6. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Serving suggestion

  1. Serve with rice and white bread.
