What Methods Can You Use to Separate Eggs?

Spread the love

For our Cloud Eggs, you need both egg white and egg yolk – for many other dishes only one of the two components. But what methods can you use to separate eggs? The most effective tools for this process are your hands, a bottle, or a funnel. With these always-available tools, you can separate the whites and yolks quickly and cleanly every time. We tell you to step by step how to do it.

Separating eggs made easy: Use your hands

Hands are the most classic tool for home cooks to separate eggs. And this is how you proceed:

  • Crack the egg on a hard edge over a bowl so that you get two roughly equal halves.
  • Now carefully slide the yolk from one half to the other.
  • Repeat this process until all the egg whites have dripped into the bowl. Now only the yolk in the shell and the egg is successfully separated.

By the way: the fresher the egg, the more certain it is that the yolk will remain whole when you separate it. In older eggs, the yolk membrane is thin – and therefore tears easily.

Simply separate eggs – the trick with the bottle

An empty and clean plastic bottle is a great tool for separating eggs. That’s how it’s done:

  • Crack the egg and slide it into a bowl.
  • Take the plastic bottle, squeeze it slightly and hold the opening directly over the yolk.
  • Slowly release the bottle. The resulting suction quickly sucks the yolk into the bottle.

Good to know: If you want to use up any leftover protein or egg yolk, but don’t yet know how to do it, then it’s best to send it to cold sleep. This gives you up to one year to think about a new use for the goods. The question “Are you actually allowed to freeze eggs?” can be answered with “yes”. And with us you will also find out how this can be achieved.

Separate eggs: trick with the funnel

You can also use a funnel to separate the egg yolk and white quickly and cleanly. Alternatively, this method also works with a soup ladle or a fine-mesh sieve.

  • Put the funnel in a glass.
  • Crack the egg and let it slide into the funnel. The yolk gets stuck. The egg white runs into the glass.

Which method is the best is a matter of opinion. Some swear by the tricks with a bottle or funnel, others don’t need anything – and separate eggs with their hands. In any case, it is worth knowing the tips. And thus also being able to dodge if the eggs cannot be separated optimally by hand.
