How to peel the kiwi correctly: you should pay attention to this
In order to be able to eat a kiwi, you do not necessarily have to peel it. Although the exterior of the fruit is not inviting, it is actually healthy to eat the kiwi with its skin on. However, the peel tastes slightly bitter, which is why most people prefer to peel the kiwi. The fruit is easy to peel if you follow a few basics.
- Since the skin of the kiwi is unlikely to taste good, you should keep it away from the inside of the kiwi. It is best to work with two knives or have a cloth ready with which you can wipe the used knife. If you don’t do this, the hairy surface of the kiwi will also spread inside and sometimes make the flesh bitter.
- If you only work with a knife or without a cloth, you can alternatively rinse the kiwi after cutting. This is quite enough to protect the pulp from the bitter taste.
- First cut off the ends of the kiwi and then use a vegetable peeler. You can then use this to peel off the skin of the kiwi from top to bottom.
Tips and tricks: How to properly cut kiwis

- You can halve a peeled kiwi lengthwise and then cut it into about three to four strips. These can be further halved crosswise so that you get small kiwi cubes. Such kiwi cubes are ideal for a salad, quark, or yogurt with fruit.
- You can also slice the peeled kiwi. Simply place the kiwi in front of you and then use a knife to cut across slices of different thicknesses. Such discs are well suited for decoration on cocktail glasses.
