Cleaning the fridge: the preparation

• Depending on the thoroughness of the cleaning, the process may take a little longer. The less food in the refrigerator, the more convenient the time of cleaning.
• Store the groceries in a box in the basement, in a cool box, or simply in front of the door in winter. Under no circumstances should the cold chain be interrupted for perishable foods such as fish and meat. If necessary, you can also ask your neighbors to store them for a short time.
• Turn off the fridge right at the start. For safety reasons, the device should not be running during cleaning.

Cleaning the fridge: freezer compartment and grid

• Once you have cleared out the refrigerator and switched it off, pull the appliance forward a little if possible. Dust often collects on the back, which can drastically increase power consumption. Vacuum or wipe off the dust.
• If a freezer compartment is integrated into the refrigerator, you can have it defrosted at the same time. Putting a pot of hot water in it will speed up the process. Be sure to wipe up excess water every few minutes to keep it from spilling.

Instructions: Clean the fridge properly

1. First, remove all loose parts from the refrigerator and clean them in the sink. This includes the individual compartments, drawers, and shelves in the door.
2. It is best to use a new sponge for cleaning. Warm water and a few drops of washing-up liquid are sufficient.
3. Let the individual parts dry well. At the latest before putting them back into the fridge, you should carefully dry the compartments, drawers, and shelves again with a clean towel.
4. You should avoid using chemical cleaners to clean the interior. A bucket of warm water and some vinegar essence or lemon juice concentrate are all you need. Take about a tablespoon per liter of water.
5. Before you put the refrigerator back into operation, the interior and all other parts should be completely dry. To avoid high humidity in the refrigerator after cleaning, wipe the condensation from the stored food if necessary.
