Since April 20, 2020, ice cream parlors have been allowed to sell their sweet cold dishes to street customers again. For you as a customer, there are a few things to consider.

  • Keep your distance: The rule of minimum distance also applies to the purchase of ice cream. This means that you must keep a distance of at least one and a half meters from the customer waiting in front of you.
  • Do I have to wear a face mask? Wearing a makeshift mask outside is not mandatory, but it does no harm either. Here you can decide for yourself how you want to behave. If the ice cream parlor is located in a shopping mall or other busy location, then special rules may apply.
  • Mug or waffle – can I choose? Here, too, you can choose to your heart’s content, as long as the ice cream vendor offers both. At some ice cream parlors in Germany, however, you only get your cold food in a cup and wrapped in paper to take away.
  • Where can I eat my ice cream? Depending on where the ice cream parlor is located, you may not be allowed to stay “on-site” or in the immediate vicinity. To avoid possible crowds, you should move on as soon as possible and enjoy your ice cream somewhere else.
  • Do I have to wear gloves? no, You are not required to wear disposable gloves to purchase ice cream from a street vendor.
  • Can I take my child with me? You can take your children with you to eat ice cream. While waiting, stay tight as a small group to allow for social distancing rules for everyone. Alternatively, the children can wait at a safe distance with another caregiver for their cold treat.
  • Are there delivery services? Many ice cream parlor operators switched to the delivery of ice cream at the beginning of the shutdown. So you can enjoy banana split and spaghetti ice cream in the comfort of your own home in the usual quality.
