Store coffee beans correctly – this is how it works

The enemy of coffee beans is oxygen. Therefore, only open the package immediately before you want to grind the beans.

  • Immediately after opening the coffee pack, pour the beans into a light-tight ceramic container that can be sealed airtight. Since coffee beans absorb foreign odors very quickly, plastic containers are not very suitable for storing coffee.
  • For the same reason, you shouldn’t store coffee beans in the fridge either. The smells and the moisture reduce the good aroma of the coffee.
  • Ideally, you should store the coffee beans in a cool place that is dark and dry at the same time. The pantry, for example, is well suited for storing coffee beans.
  • In this way, you can store the coffee beans for about six weeks without losing their aroma too much.
  • If you know in advance that you will not use the coffee during this time, it is best to freeze the coffee beans.
  • Take the coffee beans out of the freezer the evening before you need them and let them thaw slowly in the wrapped state. Note, however, that you should not freeze the coffee beans more than once.
