Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 500 g flour
- 20 g fresh yeast or 1 packet of dry yeast
- 50 g sugar
- ¼ liter of milk
- ½ tsp salt
- 80 g butter, melted
- 1 m.-sized egg(s)
- 100 g butter
- ⅛ liter milk
- Sugar approx. 100 – 150 g
Instructions
Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 20 minutes
Dissolve the yeast with the sugar. Mix all ingredients well and let the yeast dough rise in a warm place for at least an hour or longer. Shape the dough into a fist-sized roll (approx. 7 cm in diameter). Cut off about 9 equal-sized pieces and form them into round dumplings. Flatten slightly and let rise again. Place the sugar (100-150 g), a little butter, and the 125 ml milk in a high-sided, lidded pan. Place the dough pieces in the pan and cook over medium heat for about 30 minutes, until the liquid has completely evaporated. Never (!) lift the lid, or the dumplings will collapse! Serve with vanilla sauce and/or applesauce.
