Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 head of white cabbage
  • 40 g lard
  • 1 onion(s), finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 apple, sour, diced
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • ⅛ liter meat broth, clear
  • 1 tbsp caraway seeds, if desired

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Divide the cabbage head, wash, trim, and slice into not-too-fine leaves. Lightly brown the sugar with the lard, fry the chopped onion and sliced ​​apple, and add the cabbage. Season with half the specified amount of salt and pepper and pour in the stock. Close the lid and simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add more stock if desired. Finally, add vinegar to taste. If you like (it’s good for digestion), add 1 tablespoon of caraway seeds.
