Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 1 head of white cabbage
- 40 g lard
- 1 onion(s), finely chopped
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 apple, sour, diced
- 1 tsp salt and pepper
- ⅛ liter meat broth, clear
- 1 tbsp caraway seeds, if desired
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
Divide the cabbage head, wash, trim, and slice into not-too-fine leaves. Lightly brown the sugar with the lard, fry the chopped onion and sliced apple, and add the cabbage. Season with half the specified amount of salt and pepper and pour in the stock. Close the lid and simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add more stock if desired. Finally, add vinegar to taste. If you like (it’s good for digestion), add 1 tablespoon of caraway seeds.
