Baklava / Oriental Strudel

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 2 packages of strudel sheets
  • 200 g nuts, coarsely ground
  • 300 g sugar
  • 125 g honey
  • 1 lemon(s)
  • butter

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

Cut the pastry sheets to the size of the baking sheet. Mix the nuts well with 100g of sugar. Grease a baking sheet. Lay out 4 layers of pastry sheets, placing a little butter between each layer. Then alternate the sugar-nut mixture and 1 pastry sheet on top of each other. Place 4 more buttered pastry sheets on top. Cut the strudel into diamond-shaped pieces with a sharp knife and bake in the oven at medium heat (180°C) for about 15 minutes. Cook the remaining sugar with honey, lemon slices, and 2.5 dl of water for 15 minutes. Pour half of the sugar water over the baked baklava. Let cool. Pour the remaining sugar water over the baklava before serving. Tip: Suitable as a dessert or with coffee cake.
