Sweet Asian sesame sauce

Ingredients for 3 servings:

  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 150 ml water
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sambal oelek
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds, light
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch(s) of pepper
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil, dark

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

ideal with fried rice

Caramelize the sugar in a small saucepan. Once it has melted, add the sesame seeds and toast them lightly. Don’t let the sugar over-brown. Once the sugar has caramelized, deglaze with the water and bring to a boil. Then add all the remaining ingredients to the pan and let it reduce for about 5 minutes. Done. We usually use this sauce for fried rice with vegetables and egg.
