Peel the onions and slice into thin rings. Cut the sirloin steaks into 2-3 cm pieces. Heat the oil in a large casserole dish over high heat. Add the onions and beef and season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the meat is lightly browned and the onions are soft. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes, until the meat is tender. For the rice, put a pot of water on the stovetop, add salt, and bring to a boil. Sprinkle in the rice and cook. For the sauce, combine the cornstarch with 3 tablespoons of cold water in a small bowl and add to the meat. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened. Season to taste and serve with the rice. Tip: You can also use other cuts of meat; adjust the cooking time if necessary.
