American burger
Peel and finely dice the onion, and mix with the ground beef. Season the ground beef generously with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, and form 4 flat burgers. Heat the oil in a pan and sear the burgers briskly, then cook over low heat for 6 minutes, turning once. Just before the burgers are cooked, place a slice of cheese on each burger and let it melt. In the meantime, wash the lettuce and spin dry. Wash and dry the tomatoes, remove the green stems, and slice the tomatoes. Cut the hamburger buns in half and toast each one cut-side up under the broiler until crispy. Then top each bottom half with lettuce, place a burger with melted cheese on top, and cover with the top half of the hamburger buns. Serve immediately. Tip: The All-American burgers can be topped with cucumber and onion slices, and spread with mustard or mayonnaise, depending on your taste.
