Separate the eggs. Whisk the egg yolks with sugar, 1 sachet of vanilla sugar, baking powder, milk, and cocoa powder. Beat the egg whites until stiff and carefully fold into the batter. Finally, dust with flour and carefully fold in. Pour the batter into a greased springform pan and bake for about 20 minutes at 170°C. Let the cake cool. Drain the sour cherries, reserving the juice and, if necessary, make up to 0.5 liters with water, then bring to a boil with the custard powder.
