Indian rice

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 cups Basmati rice
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 3 carnations
  • 1 pinch of caraway seeds
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 1 tbsp ghee

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

Basic recipe

Combine all ingredients in a pot and cover. Briefly increase the heat to high until the water boils. Then reduce the heat to almost the lowest setting (e.g., if the water is on 6 levels, reduce to 2). Let the rice swell on the stovetop for 20 minutes with the lid closed. Stir occasionally and replace the lid. This will make the rice nice and sticky. The rice tastes like it would in an Indian restaurant and goes well with many Indian dishes like vindaloo, tikka masala, etc. After a lot of trial and error, and with the magic ingredient ghee, I finally got the flavor just right.
