Onion cake without a base – simple and delicious

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g onion(s), white, finely chopped
  • 200 g Emmental cheese, grated
  • 200 g smoked ham, diced
  • 200 g flour
  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 tsp, levelled pepper, black
  • some caraway powder
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl with a spoon. First add the onions and cheese, then the ham, eggs, pepper, and caraway seeds, if desired. Then slowly stir in the flour, followed by the milk. The order in which the ingredients are added isn’t important. I make it as described here, but it’s certainly not necessary. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (fan oven) on the middle rack for 30-40 minutes. A silicone pan works best because it makes it easier to remove the cake. I’ve also used a regular springform pan and left the cake on the bottom while cutting it. Serve with fresh salad. I buy the cheese and ham already diced because it saves a lot of work. The preparation times have been calculated accordingly. This recipe is enough for four people when served with salads. If you’re really hungry, a big eater, or just want to fill you up, I would add a bit more.
