Ingredients for 6 servings:
- 12 onions
- 500 g beef
- 1 liter meat broth
- 100 g lard
- 1 tbsp paprika powder, hot
- 2 tbsp paprika powder, sweet
- 1 tsp caraway seeds, crushed
- ½ tsp marjoram, shredded
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 potatoes, peeled and diced
- 2 bell peppers, green, peeled, cut into strips
- 4 tomatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 clove(s) garlic, crushed
- 100 ml red wine
- sour cream
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes; Total time approx. 3 hours
Peel and dice the onion. Cut the meat into small cubes, removing all tendons and membranes. Melt the lard in a pan and fry the diced onions on all sides until golden brown. Add the meat cubes and fry in the fat for 5 minutes, turning constantly. Now add the paprika, caraway seeds, marjoram, and salt, top up with the meat broth, and simmer covered for 1 hour over low heat. Stir the diced potatoes, strips of bell pepper, and diced tomatoes into the soup with the garlic and simmer for another 25 minutes. Remove the soup from the heat and stir in the red wine. Serve with a dollop of sour cream.
