Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 2 cans of kidney beans (400 g each)
  • tbsp rapeseed oil
  • 100 g bacon
  • 100 g onion(s), peeled
  • 100 g sausage (smoked sausage)
  • 2 garlic cloves, slightly chopped
  • 150 ml coffee, black
  • 30 g ketchup
  • 20 g tomato paste
  • 35 g BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • e.g. chili powder

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Rinse the kidney beans in a sieve. Cut the bacon and onion into larger cubes. Slice the smoked sausage. Combine the coffee, ketchup, tomato paste, BBQ sauce, maple syrup, and chili, if desired, in a bowl. Brown the bacon in oil until well browned, then add the onions and cook for about 2 minutes. Add the smoked sausage and garlic and cook for another 1 minute. Deglaze with the sauce, stir in the kidney beans, and simmer gently for about 2 minutes. This dish is usually served with sourdough biscuits, but baguettes, rolls, or bread will also work.
