Cumberland Bananas

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 4 bananas, normal ripe
  • 4 slice(s) ham, raw, variety according to taste
  • 4 slices of cheese (Gouda)
  • 1 tsp mustard, medium or hot
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
  • 150 ml sauce (Cumberland)

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

warm starter or small main course

Preheat oven to 150°C (300°F). Brush a baking dish with oil and peel the bananas. Place the ham slices on a board, lightly brushing them with mustard and sprinkling with curry powder. Wrap each banana individually in a slice of ham, place them in the baking dish, and top with a slice of Gouda cheese. Place the baking dish in the oven for about 15-20 minutes, until the bananas are tender and the cheese is melted. Serve with Cumberland sauce. Serve with 1 banana per person as an appetizer or 2 bananas as a main course. Serve with baguette or salad. Salt and pepper are not necessary, as the ham and mustard provide enough flavor. Add more or less curry to taste, or omit it altogether if desired. You can, of course, use more sauce. I like the bananas to “swim” in the sauce.
