Bratwurst and cheese casserole

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g potatoes
  • salt water
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 470 ml milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 275 g cheese (Gouda)
  • 450 g bratwurst

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

First, peel the potatoes and boil them in lightly salted water until tender. Meanwhile, fry the bratwurst on each side. When they are browned on all sides, remove them from the pan, halve them lengthwise, and then cut them into half-moon pieces. Return them to the pan and fry them again on all sides. Cut the cooked potatoes into pieces, mix them with the bratwurst pieces, and place them in a baking dish. Now grate the Gouda cheese, reserving 50 g of it. Put the butter in a pan and melt. Dissolve the flour in some of the milk – stir well, otherwise lumps will form. Add the remaining milk and the “flour milk” along with the cheese (225 g) to the butter, season with salt and pepper. Stir everything well. When the cheese has melted, pour this cheese sauce over the potatoes and bratwurst in the baking dish. Finally, sprinkle the 50 g of cheese over the top and then bake at 185°C (fan oven) for 25 minutes.
