Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 12 herring fillets
  • ¼ liter cream
  • 2 cups of yogurt, 10% fat
  • 2 lemons
  • 50 g sugar
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 10 juniper berries
  • 6 cloves
  • 300 g onion(s)
  • 400 g apples, sour
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 day 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 day 1 hour 25 minutes

Soak the herring fillets in water for one hour. Squeeze the lemons and mix the juice with yogurt, cream, sugar, pepper, and salt. Then add the juniper berries, cloves, and bay leaves. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings. Cut the apples into eighths, remove the cores, and slice them thinly. Mix the onions and apples into the sauce. Drain the herring fillets and pour the sauce over the fish fillets. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours. This dish is delicious with small boiled potatoes.
