Ham and cheese sticks

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g flour, type 550
  • cubes of yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • some sugar
  • 250 ml milk, lukewarm
  • 125 ml oil
  • 200 g smoked ham, diced
  • 150 g cheese, grated
  • 50 g butter, melted
  • 1 egg yolk, for brushing
  • Cream or milk
  • Cheese, grated and caraway seeds for sprinkling

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

Mix flour with salt. Make a well in the center, crumble in yeast, add sugar, and mix with a little milk. Let stand for about 5 minutes. Knead with the remaining ingredients. Form the dough into walnut-sized balls and let rise for about half an hour. Roll each ball out very thinly into an oval shape, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with some ham and grated cheese, and roll up. Let the sticks rise for about 20 minutes. Whisk egg yolk with milk or cream, brush over the sticks, and sprinkle with cheese and caraway seeds. Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
