Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 liter of milk
  • 225 g rusks
  • 65 g butter, soft
  • 125 g sugar
  • 1 bottle of bitter almond flavoring or 2 tablespoons of Amaretto
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 g semolina (durum wheat)
  • 125 g raisins

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 45 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes

Recipe from my Grandma Gretel

Soak the milk and rusks for half an hour. Stir in the sugar. Mix in the butter, eggs, and bitter almond oil or Amaretto. Stir in the raisins and semolina. Let stand for 15 minutes. Pour everything into a well-greased dish. Simmer in a water bath for 1.5 hours. Tip: Place a towel over the pot and cover with the lid. If you don’t like bitter almond oil or raisins, you can of course omit them. I usually make plum sauce with this.
