simple cake with milk slice and banana

Depending on the size of the cake ring, you will need either more or fewer Milchschnitte (milk slices). This also applies to the bananas and cream. Place a cake ring on a cake plate and line it with Milchschnitte (milk slices). If there are any corners left, trim the Milchschnitte (milk slices) to cover the entire base. Then cut some Milchschnitte (milk slices) lengthwise into strips about 0.5–1 cm long. Stack these along the edges to form a frame. I usually need three strips on top of each other to ensure sufficient height. Then slice the banana or halve it lengthwise and line the base with them. Once the base is covered, set aside. Soak the gelatin in cold water according to the package instructions. In the meantime, prepare the cream. To do this, thoroughly mix the quark, sour cream, vanilla sugar, and sugar (add a dash of lemon juice if you like). Cut 3–4 Milchschnitte (milk slices) into small pieces and stir them in with a hand mixer to break up the pieces nicely. Set the cream aside. Then whip the cream until stiff peaks form. I use cream stiffener to keep the cream nice and firm, but if you don’t want it, you can of course leave it out. Press the gelatine firmly and melt it in a saucepan according to the package instructions. Stir a little of the cream into the gelatine and then stir the mixture into the milk slice cream. Fold in the stiffly whipped cream. Don’t overmix, or the cream will collapse again! Spread the finished cream over the milk slice base. It should fill the entire frame. If it doesn’t, you can fold over a layer of thinly sliced milk slices from the edge or remove them completely, as you wish. You can now either leave the cake as it is or decorate it as desired. Refrigerate overnight. Tip: If you want it to have more of a banana flavor, you can puree a banana and stir it into the cream.
