Sauerbraten sauce without meat

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 3 onions
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 carrot(s)
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • ½ liter broth
  • ½ pack of sauce cakes
  • 4 tbsp raisins
  • 1 tbsp cranberry compote
  • 1 tsp sour cream
  • salt and pepper
  • Sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Peel the onions and carrots and cut into four pieces. Bring the broth to a boil, add the vegetables, season with vinegar and bay leaf, and simmer for 10 minutes until the vegetables are tender, then remove the vegetables. Wash the raisins and add them to the broth, simmering for another 5 minutes. Meanwhile, cut the gravy cake into pieces and pour the broth over the gravy cake, mashing it with a fork. Remove the bay leaf from the sauce and add the gravy cake to the sauce, and bring to a boil. Season with salt, pepper, cranberry compote, and sugar. Finally, stir in the sour cream.
