Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 500 ml milk
  • 500 ml cream
  • 500 ml brown rum
  • e.g. nutmeg

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 4 hours; Total time approx. 4 hours 15 minutes

American Christmas punch

Serves about 20. This version of American eggnog is very potent, even if you halve the rum! Alternatively, you can use brandy or bourbon; I like it best with rum. Whisk the egg yolks and sugar, add the milk and rum, and whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved. I usually add a pinch of nutmeg at this point. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 3 hours. Whip the cream and fold it into the mixture, then chill for another hour. Serve best in mugs with a pinch of grated nutmeg on top.
