Hot berries with a kick

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 300 g mixed berries, unsweetened (frozen)
  • 50 ml port wine, red or alternatively: red grape juice
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 1 clove(s)
  • 1 lemon peel
  • some vanilla pod(s)
  • 2 tbsp Amaretto (for adults only – omit for children)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • some water

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Heat the frozen berry mixture in a large saucepan with the cinnamon bark, cloves, and vanilla pod. Deglaze with the port wine or grape juice. Simmer gently for another 8-10 minutes. Remove the spices (cinnamon bark, cloves, lemon peel, and vanilla pod) and pour in the liqueur (adults only!). Dissolve the cornstarch in a little water and use it to thin the berry mixture to the desired consistency. Tastes great with desserts, creams, ice cream, etc.
