Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 loaf(s) baked in heart shape or 1 round loaf cut
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 garlic clove(s)
  • ½ cucumber(s)
  • ½ bell pepper(s), red
  • 200 g spinach (fresh or frozen)
  • 200 g cream cheese with herbs
  • 1 tbsp sour cream
  • e.g. salt and pepper

Cut the whole-wheat bread crosswise. First spread the tomato paste on the bottom half, then top with thinly sliced ​​cucumber slices. Either blanch the spinach leaves briefly or defrost frozen spinach, then squeeze out any cooking/thawing water. In a bowl, combine the spinach, chopped onion, and chopped garlic with the very finely diced bell pepper and herb cream cheese until creamy. Stir in a little sour cream, if desired; the cream should be spreadable but not runny. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Spread 2/3 of the spinach cream on the bottom half, place the top half on top, and spread with the remaining cream. Garnish with the cucumber slices.
