a recipe for the crockpot (slow cooker)

This recipe is designed for a 3.5 L crockpot (CP). First, add the goulash directly to the CP and sprinkle evenly with the fried onions and seasonings. Mix everything thoroughly. Now clean the mushrooms and, if necessary, halve or quarter them – they should be roughly the same size as the goulash. Add the mushrooms to the CP and mix everything carefully. Finally, pour over the beer. Cover. The simmering time is between 6 and 7 hours on medium heat (“medium”), and between 8 and 9 hours on low heat (“low”). Stir once halfway through the cooking time, as the meat pieces tend to stick together at first. About 30 minutes before the end of the cooking time, stir in the sauce thickener and continue simmering with the lid on. Season with salt and pepper and serve. Pasta or spaetzle and dark farmhouse bread are excellent accompaniments. Spicy mustard goes excellently with this dish.
