Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 500 g pasta (macaroni)
- 6 tomatoes
- 200 g ham, raw, diced
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 200 g grated cheese (e.g. Emmental)
- 5 tbsp tomato ketchup
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 pinch(s) of pepper
- some butter
- some oil
Instructions
Working time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes
Break the macaroni in half and cook in salted water with a splash of oil until al dente. Rinse and set aside. Butter a casserole dish and slice the tomatoes. Now start layering the casserole. Place a layer of cooked macaroni in the buttered dish, then a layer of diced ham, then top this layer with tomato slices. Lightly season the tomato slices with salt (only lightly because of the ham) and pepper. Repeat this layering process until all the ingredients are used up. The last layer should consist of tomato slices. Make a casserole sauce with the sour cream, eggs, ketchup, salt, and pepper. The sauce should be slightly pink, and the ketchup should be slightly noticeable. Pour the sauce over the casserole and sprinkle with grated cheese. Place a few knobs of butter on the cheese layer. Place the casserole in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 45-50 minutes, until the crust is the desired shade of brown and the sauce has set. Serve with a fresh green salad. This casserole is especially popular with kids.
