- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 large egg(s)
- 225 g mushrooms, brown, cleaned, and sliced
- 30 g flour
- 1 liter beef stock or broth
Instructions
Working time approx. 35 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour
Heat one tablespoon of oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté for 6 minutes. Then transfer half of the onion pieces from the frying pan to a large bowl and the other half to another bowl. Add the ground beef, breadcrumbs, seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and egg to the onion pieces in the large bowl and mix well. Form the mixture into 4 oval patties. Heat the second tablespoon of oil in the frying pan over medium heat, add the patties to the pan, and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side; they should be browned on the outside. Remove the Salisbury steaks from the frying pan and place them on a plate. Drain all but 2 tablespoons of the fat from the frying pan. Return the frying pan to the heat, add the mushrooms, and sauté for 5 minutes. Add the second half of the onion pieces, sprinkle with the flour, and sauté for 2 minutes. Now pour in the beef stock and bring to a boil. Add the Salisbury steaks to the pan, reduce the heat, and simmer gently for another 10 minutes; the sauce should thicken. Remove the steaks and mushroom sauce from the pan and arrange on plates. Serve with mashed potatoes. Pasta also goes well.
