Amish-style apple pie

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 700 g apples, peeled, pitted and sliced
  • 120 g butter
  • 225 g brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 120 g flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 180 ml milk

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

In the original recipe, the cake is prepared in a cast iron pan. This only works if the pan is properly greased and NOT washed. Otherwise, the cake can also be baked in a greased or parchment-lined regular pan. The pan shouldn’t be too large (about 20 cm). A small springform pan will also work. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Stir in the milk until the batter is smooth. Melt the butter in the pan. Add the sliced apples and fry for 5 minutes, stirring gently. Mix the sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt, pour over the apples, and fold in a little. Now lift the apples out of the pan with a slotted spoon or a rice spoon and add them to the batter. Carefully fold in the apples. Now return the mixture to the pan. Depending on your preference, use the cast iron pan or a greased or parchment-lined pan. Bake in the oven at 180°C for 40 minutes. With 6 servings per serving 450 Kcal
