Apple and walnut crumble

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 75 g butter
  • 75 g sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 150 g spelt flour (type 630)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 50 g walnuts, chopped
  • 4 large apples
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • Butter for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 35 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

Grease a square baking dish or 4 smaller dishes with butter. Preheat the oven to 180°C (top/bottom heat). First, prepare the crumble topping. Melt the butter. Mix the flour with the sugar, salt, and vanilla sugar, then mix in the melted butter and egg yolk with a fork. Peel, core, and quarter the apples. Slice the quarters and immediately toss with the lemon juice. Mix in the sugar. Pour the apple mixture into the dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping on top and bake in the oven for 35 minutes. Serve with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or custard.
