especially delicious: hot on ice

Peel the apples and core them using a corer. Melt the butter and toss the apples in it several times. Mix the sugar with the nuts and cinnamon and toss the apples in the mixture until they are completely coated. Place in a baking dish. Add the remaining nut mixture to the remaining butter and stir. Spread the mixture into the holes in the middle of the apples. Insert 1/2 to one whole cinnamon stick into each one and bake at 180°C for about 45-50 minutes until a nice golden crust has formed. The baked apples taste best hot with vanilla, walnut or caramel ice cream. The sauce that has formed in the baking dish can be poured over ice cream.
