Apple cake with nut crumble 29 x 23 cm
Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Line a small baking sheet with baking paper. For the pastry, cream the butter with sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and beat in. Mix the flour with the cornstarch and baking powder and stir into the butter mixture. For the topping, peel the apples, remove the cores, cut the flesh into wedges, and immediately mix with the applesauce. For the crumble, melt the butter and let it cool to lukewarm. Mix together the other crumble ingredients. Slowly add the butter in a thin stream, stirring constantly with a fork, until you have crumbles of the desired size. Spread the batter onto the baking sheet. Spread the apple mixture on top and crumble the crumble over the top. Bake the cake on the second rack from the bottom for about 40 minutes. If the crumble gets too dark, cover with aluminum foil.
