a recipe for the crockpot / slow cooker

This recipe is designed for a 3.5 L CrockPot (CP). First, grease the inner pot with butter. In a bowl, combine the white bread, apples, and raisins (if using). Heat the milk and butter in a saucepan until melted, then stir in the vanilla sugar, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the milk over the bread mixture and stir 5-6 times. Let it cool for about 3 minutes. Crack the eggs directly into the bowl and mix everything briefly but thoroughly (the pieces of white bread should still be visible!). Then pour everything loosely into the CP and press down lightly. Sprinkle evenly with the almonds and cover. Cook on high for about 2 hours. If necessary, do the toothpick test in the middle of the casserole. If the batter is still too sticky, cook for a longer time. The casserole is usually done when the edges appear crispy. Serve with vanilla ice cream or vanilla sauce.
