Apple Chutney

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 750 g apples, sour, e.g. Boskop or Braburn
  • 2 bell peppers, red
  • 20 g ginger root
  • 50 ml vinegar (apple cider vinegar)
  • 150 g brown sugar
  • 5 cloves
  • 1 pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1 bag of ready-made salad mix, paprika herbs

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Wash, peel, quarter, core, and slice the apples. Halve, deseed, wash, and slice the bell peppers. Peel and finely slice the ginger. Combine the apples, bell peppers, ginger, vinegar, sugar, spices, and salad dressing in a saucepan and bring to a boil while stirring. Simmer uncovered over low heat for 30-40 minutes. Pour the chutney while still hot into clean jars and seal with twist-off lids or preserving film. Makes approximately 1 1/4 liters of chutney. It tastes delicious with grilled meats, fondue, or smoked pork and will keep in the refrigerator for many weeks.
