Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g sour apples, peeled, cored, roughly chopped
  • 1 chili pepper(s), green, fresh, halved lengthwise and chopped
  • 30 g ghee, or clarified butter
  • 1 tsp five-spice powder
  • Salt
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 1 ½ tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 dash of lemon juice

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Heat the ghee in a pan, add the five-spice mix, a pinch of salt, the turmeric, and the cumin, and roast for 1/2 minute, stirring occasionally. Add the apples and chili pepper and fry for another 4 minutes. Add 5 tablespoons of water, cover, and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Season with sugar and lemon juice and continue cooking until the chutney thickens. Stir frequently. Serve the chutney cooled.
