a recipe from my grandmother in Styria

Peel the apples, remove the cores, and cut into wedges. Then simmer them in a saucepan with 1 tablespoon of sugar, the juice of half a lemon, and a little water (to cover the bottom) with the lid closed. Meanwhile, mix the milk and water and stir into the dumpling dough in a bowl with 10 tablespoons of flour, the egg, and a pinch of salt. Heat lightly salted water in a saucepan. Use a small spoon to scoop out dumplings from the dough and add them to the boiling water (optionally with a dumpling grid). Stir occasionally. The dumplings are ready when they float to the surface. Finally, strain the dumplings, add a little butter, mix with the stewed apples and a pinch of cinnamon, and serve.
