Peel the apple and remove the core. Cut the apple into 0.5 cm thick slices and marinate in Calvados for at least 2 hours. For the batter, mix the flour, milk, eggs, baking powder, and salt well to form a very thick batter. If the batter is still too runny, add more flour. Add the oil or butter to the pan and heat. Pour some of the batter into the pan, coat an apple slice in the batter and place it on top of the batter in the pan, then pour a little more batter on top to form a fairly round cake. You can also use round metal baking dishes with open tops and bottoms, if you have them. Bake for about 3 minutes at medium heat, then turn over and bake for another 3 minutes. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake each cake separately and keep warm, unless you have baking dishes, in which case bake as many as you have at once. Vanilla sauce with a little Calvados in it is delicious.
