Apple Fritters with Red Grits Sauce

The perfect apple fritters with red grits sauce recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

For the sauce:

  • 750 g Berries red
  • 250 g Cherry wine
  • 10 g Rum
  • 25 g Food starch
  • 100 g Coconut blossom sugar

For the apple fritters:

  • 3 Pc. Eggs
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 packet Vanilla sugar
  • 180 g Flour
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 4 Pc. Fresh apples Boskoop
  • 3 liter Frying fat (mainly vegetable fat)

For the sauce:

  1. Bring all ingredients to the boil in a saucepan and simmer for a good 15 minutes. It is best to dissolve the starch in one to two teaspoons of water beforehand.
  2. Pass the red grits sauce through a sieve and chill.

For the apple fritters:

  1. For the batter, mix the eggs with the flour, milk, sugar, salt and vanilla sugar. Stir the batter well until no more lumps can be seen.
  2. Peel the apples, cut into approx. 1 cm thick slices and remove the core. In order for the dough to stick better to the apple slices, they should be dusted with flour. They are then dipped into the batter and placed directly in hot fat at around 180 degrees to fry.
  3. The apple pancakes are ready when they are golden brown and crispy.
