Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 350 g flour
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 85 g butter or margarine, in small pieces
  • 85 g lard or vegetable fat, cut into small pieces
  • 6 tbsp water, cold
  • 1 egg(s), beaten or
  • some milk for brushing
  • 750 g apples (cooking apples), peeled, sliced
  • 115 g sugar, brown or white
  • ½ tsp cinnamon or allspice or ginger
  • 1 tbsp water, if necessary

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Place the flour and salt in a bowl, add the butter and lard, and quickly knead the ingredients into a dough. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in cling film, and let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 220°C. Roll out about two-thirds of the dough thinly and line a pie dish or a shallow, round baking dish. Mix the apple slices with the sugar and spices and spread them over the dough. Sprinkle with water if necessary. Roll out the remaining dough into a circular lid, moisten the edges with water. Place the lid on the pie and press the edges firmly into place. Trim off any excess dough. Cut leaves or other shapes from the leftover dough, moisten them with water, and stick them onto the lid. Brush with egg or milk and pierce one or two slits in the lid. Place the dish on a baking sheet. Bake the pie in the oven for 20 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 180°C and bake the pie for another 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown. Sprinkle with sugar and serve warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream.
