Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 2 cup(s) corn flour, precooked, white, e.g. from Pan
  • 2 cups water, warm
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Rapeseed oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

for approx. 10 round corn cakes

Put the flour in a bowl. Add the water and mix well with a wooden spoon. Knead the dough. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for about 5-10 minutes. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball. Using the palms of your hands, form the ball into a large, flat disc, about 1.25 cm thick. Preheat the oven to 250°C. Heat a little oil (a very small amount) in a pan and fry the arepas over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side. Place the fried arepas on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for another 5 minutes. Top your arepas with whatever you like.
