Asian – Chinese sweet and sour sauce

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp vinegar (rice vinegar, alternatively white wine vinegar)
  • 200 ml water
  • 4 tsp flour
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sherry, if desired
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp oil (sesame)

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

Heat a pan and add the sugar. Once it’s caramelized, deglaze with the rice vinegar and add the water. Stir the flour into the water first. Add the soy sauce and tomato paste and heat. Finally, add the sesame oil and sherry. Be careful not to burn the sugar at the beginning, otherwise it will taste smoky.
